All About Terpenes

What are terpenes and why are they important and why do we include them in all of our Kyoto Botanicals CBD products?

Hemp terpenes are naturally occurring organic compounds found in the hemp plant. They are aromatic molecules responsible for the distinctive scents and flavors of the plant, and they are also believed to have potential health benefits.

Terpenes are found in a wide range of plants, not just hemp, and they play important roles in the plants' growth, reproduction, and defense against pests and diseases. In hemp, terpenes are synthesized in the plant's resin glands, along with cannabinoids - like CBD, CBN, CBG, etc. - which are present on the flower of the plant.

There are over 100 different terpenes that have been identified in hemp, each with its unique chemical structure and aroma. Some of the most common terpenes found in hemp include:

  1. Myrcene: This terpene is known for its earthy and musky aroma, and it is believed to have recovery properties.

  2. Limonene: This terpene has a citrusy aroma and is believed to have calming benefits.

  3. Pinene: This terpene has a piney aroma and is believed to have recovery properties.

  4. Caryophyllene: This terpene has a spicy aroma and is believed to have recovery and calming benefits.

Hemp terpenes are commonly used in the production of hemp-derived products, such as CBD oil, because of their potential health benefits and their ability to enhance the aroma and flavor of the product.

Terpenes are believed to work synergistically with cannabinoids, such as CBD, in what is called the entourage effect. This means that when terpenes and cannabinoids are present together, they may enhance each other's effects and provide greater health benefits than when used alone. That is why it is so important to buy products that are made from a) high quality hemp and b) use the whole plant (full and/or broad spectrum) rather than CBD isolate.

Here at Kyoto Botanicals, using whole-plant hemp extract is what we do, and that is why all of our products contain a diverse array of cannabinoids, but also terpenes. That is why our customers keep coming back and say we have the most effective CBD products they have every tried.

As you can see in our terpene lab results for our 600mg Lemon Ginger CBD tincture, we have high levels of terpenes in our products, roughly at the level of 2:1 CBD:terpenes, with this product having over 270mg of terpenes (over 4mg per serving) in the bottle. That is why you will both taste and feel the difference with Kyoto Botanicals CBD. Quality matters.
