CBD product forms: what they are and why they might matter more than you think

Is your CBD form impacting your results? I am the founder of Kyoto Botanicals, and I see a massive amount of confusion in our industry around how different product forms perform. In this video, I walk through a simple breakdown of hemp bioavailability, ranking delivery methods from the fastest absorption to the slowest release formats so you can find what actually works for your metabolism.

If You Think CBD Doesn't Work For You, You Might Just Have the Wrong Product Form

Bioavailability determines how much of the active compound successfully reaches your bloodstream and how quickly it takes effect. If you swap from a capsule to a sublingual tincture, or let a gummy dissolve slightly in your mouth before chewing, you can definitely impact the results you see. Don't assume CBD generally doesn't work for your body based on one product type. I always recommend changing your product type if you are struggling to see the results you are looking for.

0:00 - The Bioavailability Problem: Talking about hemp bioavailability today. I think it's an important topic that doesn't get discussed too much and there's a lot of confusion in the category around the different forms, what they do, why you should take one over the other. So just going to do a quick walkthrough of the different forms and rank them on bioavailability.

0:20 - Vape & Flower (Fastest Onset): First you have smokeable hemp forms typically as a vape or flower. Not a super common one but it is typically the highest bioavailability. So that one will be absorbed faster as the absorption happens in your lungs which are designed to absorb gasses straight into your bloodstream and you will get the effects quicker. But because it does involve inhaling into your lungs, a lot of people avoid it, so that's why it's not as popular as other forms.

0:52 - Sublingual Tinctures (Optimal Balance): The next most bioavailable form is a tincture. Since hemp extract is fat-soluble you basically just combine the hemp extract with a stable oil: we use organic olive oil at Kyoto Botanicals, a lot of people use MCT oil, you can use hemp oil, etc. You place it in your mouth and hold it sublingually for about 30 seconds and swallow so it starts to absorb through your mouth tissue.

1:17 - Ingestibles & Gummies (Slower Release): Third on the list are the ingestible forms. This is where you get into gummies, capsules, drinks, etc. For CBD gummies, you take a gummy and eat it (sometimes I suck on them just so you start to get that absorption in your mouth) and it has a slower release and overall CBD availability than the previous forms because you lose a little bit more through the stomach acids and digestion as your body breaks down the gummy matrix to access the CBD. But for convenience and ease of consumption, these are hard to beat.

1:41 - Capsules (Slowest Release): The final form I want to cover is capsules. These are the slowest release form since the CBD is encapsulated. You swallow them just like a pill and you don't start absorbing in your mouth at all and you don't chew them up, so you don't get that initial breakdown and slight absorption in your mouth through the mechanical chewing like a gummy. You swallow it and then you have to wait for the capsule itself to get dissolved and then the CBD to process in your body.

2:02 - Founder Recommendation: Given all of this, what I always recommend is, since people do respond differently to the different forms, try one, if it doesn't work, it doesn't necessarily mean CBD doesn't work for you, it just might be that form. So, try a different form and go from there.
