Does CBD Help With Sore Muscles and Everyday Aches? What Our Customers Say

CBD helps support your body's natural recovery process, and many of our customers use it before, during, and after an active day to help maintain their active lifestyle.

But a search for CBD and sore muscles will turn up a lot of confident claims and very little data. So I did what I did for stress and sleep: I went back through every review we have ever received and counted what customers actually say about CBD for sore muscles and muscle recovery.

What I found surprised me. Recovery is a real reason people use Kyoto Botanicals CBD products, but the gym is not the only reason people turn to CBD for soreness.

Quick Takeaway

21% of our reviews, across Judge.me, Google, and Trustpilot, describe sore muscles, everyday aches, or physical recovery. Only 29% of those are about exercise. The other 71% are everyday soreness or a different issue. Research on CBD and muscle soreness is early and mixed, and I explain both sides below.

1. Does CBD Help With Sore Muscles? What Our Reviews Show

Of all of Kyoto Botanicals CBD reviews, 21% describe sore muscles, everyday aches, or physical recovery as a reason they use our products. That makes it the third most common reason customers give, behind CBD for everyday stress (40%) and CBD for sleep (27%).

2. How Did We Count Our Customer Reviews?

We pulled every published review from Judge.me, Google Business Profile, and Trustpilot, removed exact duplicates, and removed a few reviews written by people close to the company. I read each one and tagged why the person said they use the product.

For this post I went back and re-read every soreness and recovery review by hand. Keyword matching flagged some reviews that were really about sleep or stress, and I took those out. Nothing was cherry-picked. If you want the full approach, it is the same method we used in our guides to CBD and stress and CBD and sleep.

3. What Kind of Soreness Do Customers Describe?

Most of the CBD for recovery reviews are not about workouts. When we sorted them by what the customer actually described, only about three in ten involved exercise or sport.

*Each review is placed in one row only, so this table sums to 100%. Percentages are of the CBD for recovery reviews, not of all CBD reviews.

The exercise group is a mix of golfers, cyclists, gym-goers, and a people describing walking, yard work, or an active routine. Here is how two customers describe the everyday side, in their own words:

Helps my sore back and neck after a long day at work. The warmth feels great!

Eddie W., Judge.me review

...it is one of the most helpful lotions for the aches and pains of being on your feet all day for work.

Gloria D., Trustpilot review

And one from the exercise group:

Whenever I'm sore from the gym I'll apply it and it helps so much with recovery! Plus the menthol is soothing!

Hannah, Judge.me review

4. Which CBD Products Do People Mention for Soreness?

Topicals lead. 54% mention our CBD sports cream and for good reason since it is our flagship product for people living an active lifestyle.

5. Can CBD Help With Soreness After Sitting or a Long Drive?

None of our reviews mention driving or desk sitting specifically. The closest are people describing a long workday or being on their feet all day. What I can offer is my own experience, which is not a study and not a promise of what you will feel.

I'm 46. I just drove six hours from Denver to Santa Fe to see family, and sitting that long is what gets my left hip, not a workout. I rely on the sports cream to help keep me comfortable. What I've noticed at this age is that I'm much more aware of my hip and lower back than I used to be, how I'm sitting, and sometimes how I'm walking. If you want my training-season routine, I wrote that up in the cream vs. oil guide.

Founder Tip

After a long day of sitting, my left hip and lower back are the first to complain. The sports cream is what I reach for, and a pillow between my knees at night makes a difference too. Everyone is different, so treat that as one person's routine, and always keep a CBD journal to track what does and doesn't work for you.

6. When Do Customers Use CBD for Recovery?

Some mention using a topical after a long day or after the gym. Some took a gummy before a round of golf. Some describe CBD as part of a bedtime routine, and others talk about how they feel when they wake up.

Recovery also rarely shows up alone. 25% also mention sleep, and 21% mention stress or unwinding. For about a quarter of these customers, recovery and sleep are the same sentence. We cover that overlap in our guides to CBD and sleep and CBD and everyday stress.

7. Is CBD Good for Muscle Recovery After a Workout? What Two Studies Found

The honest answer is that the research is early and mixed. Two controlled studies tested CBD after exercise that was designed to cause muscle damage, and they did not agree:

  • Positive signal: A 2026 randomized, placebo-controlled feasibility trial in the Journal of Cannabis Research gave 29 healthy adults (average age about 20) 67 mg of CBD a day sublingually for 15 days. At 48 hours after an induced quadriceps injury, the CBD group reported less strength loss than placebo. The authors describe it as a small feasibility study and call for larger trials.
  • No difference: A 2022 crossover study in Healthcare gave 24 well-trained women a CBD pill (5 mg per kilogram of body weight) or placebo before, right after, and 10 hours after 100 damaging leg extensions. The researchers found no significant differences in muscle fatigue or performance.

Both studies gave CBD by mouth, both induced soreness in a lab, and both enrolled healthy young adults. Neither tested a cream, and we are not aware of a controlled trial on topical CBD and muscle soreness that we would stand behind. So when someone tells you the science is settled in either direction, they are ahead of the evidence. As always, I encourage you to keep a CBD journal and see how different forms make you feel and come up with your own CBD routine.

8. What Can't This Data Tell You?

This blog covers reviews from people who already bought the product and chose to write one. Reviews are individual experiences, results vary from person to person, and about a quarter of all our reviews are general praise with no specific reason given. What this is, is an honest look at what real customers told us, unprompted, in their own words.

9. CBD and Sore Muscles: Frequently Asked Questions

Does CBD help with sore muscles?

We can't make medical claims about what CBD does for any individual. In our own data, 21% of reviewers describe sore muscles, everyday aches, or physical recovery. We encourage you to try your own CBD routine to see what works for you and talk to your doctor if you have any concerns at all before starting CBD.

How long does muscle soreness last after a workout?

It depends on the activity and how conditioned you are. In a 2026 trial that used an intentionally damaging leg workout, pain and strength loss peaked around 24 to 48 hours and were least pronounced by 96 hours. That is one lab protocol in young adults, not a rule for everyone.

Does CBD cream work better than CBD oil for sore muscles?

In our reviews, half the people mention CBD topicals and half the people mention CBD gummies and oils, and some customers use more than one. That shows what customers chose, not which format is better. Our guide to CBD cream vs. CBD oil covers the differences.

Should I use CBD before or after a workout?

You can use CBD topicals as needed before or after a workout. Let your body be your guide and try different routines and see what works best for you.

Can CBD cream help with stiffness after a long drive or sitting all day?

I personally use the sports cream after long stretches of sitting and find it helps me, but that is just one person's experience, so I encourage you to try it and see if it works for you.

Will CBD show up on a drug test?

Our products are THC-free and third-party tested, but we can't guarantee any individual test result. If you are subject to drug testing, read our guide to CBD and drug testing and avoid using any CBD products.

Is it safe to use CBD every day for recovery?

Yes it is, but as always, if you are considering daily use, especially alongside other medications or supplements, talk with your healthcare provider first.
